We were a Dayton business before the internet was a thing. Here's how we got here, and why we're still doing it the way we started.
In 1991, E Joseph started a small contracting business in Dayton, Ohio. The legal name on the paperwork was Joseph's Remodeling. Back then, "remodeling" was the wider trade and HVAC was one of the things you did when somebody's furnace gave out in the middle of a job.
Over the next decade, the heating and cooling side took over. The work was steady, the calls kept coming, and the family kept showing up. By the 2000s, Best Heating & Cooling was the name on the trucks and the focus of the business. But the operation was still the same: one family, working in their own neighborhood, doing the work themselves.
We've never been the biggest HVAC company in Dayton, and we've never wanted to be. We've been the one your neighbor calls, and their neighbor calls, and now their kids call when they buy their first house.
One truck, one family, and a contracting business in Dayton, Ohio. HVAC was one slice of the work, but it would take over.
Heating and cooling became the focus. New name on the trucks, same family doing the work, same Dayton neighborhoods.
35+ Years in, the Josephs still answer the phone. Homes and businesses across the Miami Valley, one neighbor at a time.
We could tell you we're family-owned, locally-owned, licensed and insured. Every HVAC company says that. So instead, here's a story we didn't ask for and didn't pay for:
The owner's son took the time to speak to our son who was 15 at the time, after he completed the work on our air conditioner and explained how he started in HVAC. I never seen our son so interested. A year later our son who is now 16, started attending the Greene County Career Center and is soaring in the field. Last week we called Best Heating again for what I thought was a major issue, and they handled it the same way they always have — fast, fair, and like family.
That's the difference between a company that does HVAC and a family that's been doing HVAC in the same town for 35 years. We don't just want to fix your AC. We want our kids to grow up serving your kids when they're homeowners too.
If we tell you we'll be at your house Tuesday afternoon, we're there Tuesday afternoon. If something changes, we call you first.
Sometimes that means we don't sell you the new system. Sometimes that means we tell you to replace instead of repair when most companies would milk the repair. Either way, the truth.
Drop cloths. Shoe covers. Vacuum when we're done. None of these are upsells. None of these get added to the bill.
We don't subcontract. The people on your service call are people with Joseph last names or last names we've known for a long time. There's no call center between you and us.
The paperwork side of running a 34-year-old HVAC company. Boring to read, important to have, happy to show.
Whether it's an emergency right now or a planned project for next month, we'd rather hear from you sooner than later. There's no obligation, no pressure, no commission-based sales rep on the other end of the line. Just our family answering the phone.
